What happens if your band slips after you loose the weight...

Recommended Posts

Will insurance cover a re-banding? Or do the original weight & BMI requirements apply? Anyone have experience with or input on this?

Just one of the million questions running through my mind right now...

I had my first band for nearly 5 years and it slipped. I have BCBS, and they paid for the first band to be removed and replaced, b/c it was medically necessary. I did NOT have to meet the requirements again (b/c I had lost my weight)--they replaced it with no questions asked, b/c all of the scans showed there was slippage and that the only way to fix it was to replace it.

It takes at least 6 weeks for the internal stitches to heal, standing up, walking around, all this can move things on the inside that can cause you pain from time to time. Check it out with your Doc when you get back or call them if it gets worse. The 'lump in your throat' is one of two things...either you're eating too much/too fast and it's backing up into your esophagus (this can lead to esophageal dialation, so slow it down), OR you're having heartburn, which is THE most common side-effect of banding...for some the ONLY symptom of heartburn is a lump in the throat (Google 'globus sensation and hearburn'). Hope this passes and you're feeling better soon...enjoy the beach and relax! -BG

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
