Bands get tight after flying?

Recommended Posts

I've read somewhere that some people have trouble with their bands being really tight for a few days after flying. Anyone have any experience with this? Just debating if I should bother with a fill tomorrow (4-3) because I'm flying in May . . .

I do a 3 hour flight every week, to and from my work, and I've never really noticed any difference before or after the flight. Then again, I'm not so tight that the slightest little change shows up straight away. It might only be a problem for those who are right on the cusp of too full, pushing them over. If you're not flying until May, I don't think flying then would be affected by a fill now. You'll have plenty of time to work out if you are too tight before then.

When I flew in Feb. I couldn't eat solids for two days. The first night I had to sleep sitting up. My band was definitely very tight for a couple of days after flying.

How funny you should ask this question... I have never heard of it before... BUT, I just flew to see some family down south for Easter and had 3 "stuck/slime" episodes while there. It seemed I couldn't eat anything!!!

Wow... thats just weird if the flight had something to do with it??!?!?!?!?

Had my appointment with the doctor today - he said the only reason someone would be tighter after flying is if there is air in the tubing. If there is only saline, it can't expand with pressure like air can. He told me not to worry about it. I didn't get an unfill for my cruise . . . because I only have 1.5cc's to begin with . . . I'm thinking I'll be fine . . . and will keep drinking for hydration.

Thanks everyone!

Chris

I don't fly, but let me tell you what happened to me a couple weeks ago. I live in California (central valley) my hubby and I drove up to Sonora (elevation 1800 ft) to get a copy of my birth cert. We had plans to eat Breakfast at one of our favorite restaurants and I couldn't eat. matter of fact any hunger I had was gone. I felt the difference right away as we drove further in. when we drove home and were in town my hunger returned and I was able to eat a light lunch. I told my Dr. about it and he had no answer.

hmmmmm!!!! maybe I should drive out there on a regular basis.

That's strange. must have been the elevation. I always say the band has a mind of it's own.

Well Chris let m know how the Cruise is. I am going on mine in November/December and I have heard that longer flights have tightness problems where short flights dont have the problem. I will have a long flight from Louisville to Purto Rico. But I am planning on packing some Protein Drinks and I know as of now when I am tight I can eat just really really slow.

Let me know how yours goes

Chris,

I had a flight from VA to Arizona back in February. With just what fill there was in the band from surgery on 12/12/07. I was miserable for probably 3-4 days. If you ask me - a long flight really does make you tighter. JMO.

C.N. Are you normaly tight? Or do you have NO restriction?

I am also trying to figure out how to deal with a flight.

No. At the time of that flight - I didn't know what if any Fluid I had in my band. I delayed getting my first fill prior to the flight and didn't find out that I had 2ml in their from band placement until my first fill in March ( 3 months post-op). I would really suggest waiting until after a trip to get a fill.

I guess everybody is different and we have to know our own bodies.

Well I'm going to HOPE we make it through the flights OK! :frown: - or at least don't get bugged until I return home . . .

I was really miserable for a couple of days this past Feb. when I flew from OR to AZ. I am at my sweet spot and never have any trouble. The first night I could not sleep at all.

Just remember to be careful with your food choices the first couple of days after flying. I had to stay on liquids and I hadn't thrown up or had any trouble since my last fill in Dec. until then. I haven't had any trouble since then either, so I know it was from flying.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
