Okay- I had the lap band on May 19th, feeling great, lost 20 pounds, but now I am afraid to eat anything. I got the okay to eat more food, and less liquids. The other night I had some meat, and I felt like I had it stuck in my throat, then I couldn't breath. My husband was going to call 911, then I threw up and I was fine. I was so scared, andit has happened 2 more times since then. I chew up the food, I chew , and I chew, but it doesn't seem to matter. I am now afraid to eat. Has anyone else had this happen? Otherwise, I am feeling great! :confused2:

Yes.

Remember this is a process so if things get stuck from time to time... just work it and go slow. I had to reintroduce everything again after I was banded. I did not eat anything w/o first testing it...as eating one bite and waiting hours to see the results. After a while, I figured out what I can and can't eat.

Things getting stuck can do damage, or so I've heard. I'm sure there will be many who post about this danger.

If it gets stuck, don't eat it. Or try mushing it, toasting it, ...just be creative.

Congrats on the weightloss.

You probably PBed. When I first read your post it sounded like you choked on the food though (stuck in throat, couldn't breathe)... so gauge what is was you felt.

Chewing is just part of the equation. There's also the quantity you're swallowing at once, how much total volume you're eating, potential intolerances, how quicky you're eating, etc.

If you're PBing - which is not an accurate term, I know - but not choking and not vomitting, and not too tight, and not having intolerances, then it really is just a learning game.

You are amazing- 117lbs!!! When did you get banded? What a goal to set, and reach it, then exceed it. Great job!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
