Consultation on Thurs...

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm going in on Thursday to my doctor (Dr. Halmi in Vienna, VA.. right outside of DC) for a consultation. Basically, once I come out of there on Thurs. night I should have a good idea of approximately when my surgery will be taking place, hopefully sometime in early May. I have researched the LAP-band and gastric bypass for about the past 3 or so years and have determined that the LAP-band is the best one for me. I'm going on 24 and weigh 240 right now, and I personally feel that gastric bypass, although a highly effective tool, would be a bit too much for me in my life right now. Plus, I like the whole earlier recovery time from LAP-band vs. gastric bypass.

Anywho! I was just curious if anyone has any suggestions about any other questions that are not frequently addressed that I could bring up to my doctor. They sent me out a TON of paperwork and a info about the LAP-band and gastric bypass, but whenever I research this on my own, I always find something new and new questions that arrise. I know this is a wonderful place to get my questions answered (pre and post-op), but if any of you have suggestions of something that I should directly ask my doctor that may not come up far too often that would be great.... I'm a bit nervous to be honest!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
