New to the idea of Lap band in GA

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!! I've been browsing the forums today and have found so much useful information! Thanks so much for that.

I've been overweight since I had my daughter (shes 4 now). I was 130 when I got pregnant and never really had weight issues growing up. I got up to 180 when I delivered, then down to 170 after. I nursed and tried to lose weight but it didn't happen. Over time I gained more and more weight. I tried to lose weight the hard way (healthy diet and exercise) but never lost much more than 15-20 pounds. I'm now up to 230 at 5'4". I've been tired for a long time. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism last fall and just diagnosed with PCOS Friday (polycystic ovarian syndrome).

Hypothyroidism makes it hard enough to lose weight... and PCOS also makes it hard to lose weight... so I'm doubly discouraged and the lap band seems like the only thing that might actually help me get down to an ideal weight.

Hey Katiebugs, I am from GA also. I just got banded 3/28. I was thin as a teenager but when I went to college I went up to180lbs. After my second child I reached a max weight of 235. I am 5'5". I am really excited about what the band will help me accomplish. I have not had that much pain because I am taking my pain medication and have only been on Clear Liquids and have not been that hungry. Good luck with your journey.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
