Has anyone experienced a slipped band?

Recommended Posts

Can you tell me what it feels like? I had my band too tight for a week and finally wasn't able to swallow my own spit. I can't remember how many times I threw up. I finally got a small unfill and now I feel funny. I don't want eat much...just a couple bites. I have lots of heartburn...though I always used to before the band. I have to go back on my Prilosec. The nausea and heartburn remind me so much of my preband time. I've been off the Prilosec since my banding. Not sure if this is a slip symptom or not.

Thanks for your help.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

It may just be irritation from being too tight. Was your unfill done under fluoro? They should have noticed a slip at that time if so. If it wasn't done under fluoro and your symptoms persist, get back to your doctor ASAP.

I've heard of this and looked...even asked..but they don't respond to the post.

Anyone with a slipped band.... how did you know? Were you symptomatic? And what were the symptoms? Pain?

I have confirmation of a slipped band. Symptoms: bad heart burn and weight gain. Too much of my stomach is above the band. I have a friend who has a slipped band from persistent vomiting. Her's has slipped up so that she has a hard time keeping food down and she has gained back weight, too.

I had an upper GI series and endoscopy to confirm. The doc totally unfilled my band and gave me my options: take out the band, replace the band or gastric bypass. I am opting for a new improved band since mine is almost 6 years old.

Thanks for all your input. I don't think mine has slipped. I really messed myself up by allowing my too tight restriction for over a week. I believe my heartburn and "odd feeling" was due to too much throwing up. I haven't gained weight. I lost seven pounds during that time and only gained one back. It was all dehydration I am sure. I am still restricted. I can just now eat a little. I can get down maybe 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food twice a day if I take it slow. I am not close to being hungry and since my stomach was upset I just didn't eat. I have plenty of Protein drinks so I'm not starving. I am going to take it slowly and see what happens. I was at 8.0 cc's and now am back to 7.5 cc's. I think I'll just leave it for a bit as long as I'm still dropping pounds.

Again, thanks for your help.

Thanks mrsjones and kandice for posting this.

So heartburn was it for you?

I'm thinking so gut wrenching pain...like gallstones pain or something....no?

And you had your 6 years? Wow!

Let us know how you do w/ the new band!

Heartburn, but mine mimicked esophageal reflux really. I didn't have gut pain but jaw and chest pain from it. I ended up in the ER in December to be sure there was nothing wrong with my heart. I had a stress test on New Year's Eve! No cardiac issues though!

Now, of course, I wish I had talked to the band doc when the heart burn first started and then I could have maybe avoided another surgery.

Thanks for your good wishes!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
