First Fill!

Recommended Posts

Well, I got my first fill today (I feel so behind some of you double V's! :)) and I was VERY nervous. I'm not sure why, maybe just the first time thing. And I just have the best doctor in the world . . . Dr. Krause is so nice, he explained everything as he went along, it was really painless and over with quickly . . . no problems! I feel so blessed to have this doctor, he's so gentle, and really cares about his patients. I have a 10cc band (doctor says the latest model :cheers2:), he put 3cc's in, and I'm on liquids for the next 24 hrs. I did have some nausea right after the fill (I drank the Water just fine) . . . but maybe it was my nerves! Right now I'm fine, and hungry again, lol :cake: Next adjustment in 4 weeks!

And the best news is . . . I started losing again! Gah, I'm glad that plateau is over (for now anyway). I was 231 last week at my appointment with my dietitian, and today I'm down to 227  I made the 220's finally! WOOT :tt1: and down 25 pounds . . . feeling great here! :tt2:

27 pounds away from onederland . . . gotta keep on swimming! I soooooo wanna reach that before Summer, but I'm trying not to set myself up for disappointment . . . just gotta take the small but steady steps, and be thankful for them!

*hugs to my fellow Victorious Valentines*

Lori - I'm so glad it went well! I was thinking of you today, and hoping it was quick and easy. And the weight will probably drop off this week, since you're on liquids and mushies for a bit. I lost 8 lbs the week after my first fill!! (and then....got stuck in a 2 week plateau, but who's counting)

Thanks Becca! Hopefully the next time I won't be so nervous. :) I hope some more weight does drop off this week, I'm really gonna take it easy and do liquids and mushies . . . but oy, those plateau's are awful! Not looking forward to another, but at least with a few experiences with them, it's good to know they don't last!

*hugs sweetie!*

That's so funny, I was stuck at 231 last week too. I got my first fill today. At first the dr. had trouble locating the port. I got 2ccs. I don't have any diet change.

I know what you mean about feeling behind the other double Vs. We are ROCKING though!!

Yes we are! Let's keep on rocking (and swimming! :))

Jeanie - You are not far behind! Although I can relate to that feeling. I always feel like I'm one of the "late double V's" since I got banded later in the month. But, we all lose weight at our own pace - glad to hear you got some inspiration from your group meeting!

Jax - Yes, it's nice to finally be in the 220's! But, look at my BMI . . . still in the 40's. All that weight is on a 5'2" body! I'm *almost* a 1X size again though . . . maybe a few more pounds. I'm really gonna hang in there and keep on pushing towards my goals. You are doing fabulous! I think if we're swimming upstream, it'll just make us stronger. *hugs!*

Hi

I just had my first fill also 6 weeks post op. It didn't hurt although I freaked at the size of the needle. My Doc did it under flouro so it was cool to see my port etc. I only received 1.6cc in my 4cc band. I was on 2 days of liquids and now I'm back to normal food. I have eaten and I actually feel less restriction than I did with only air in the band. Hopefully this will change over the next day or so.

Hi all,

Can I join the Valentines? I was banded on the 25th of Feb. I had my first fill last Monday. It really helped....although I am feeling "snacky". I need advice on how to not snack!!! Any thoughts or inspiration?

welcome aboard Lisa! just jump in anywhere or make a new thread with a question. you were banded just a few days after me. i was banded on 2/21/08.

drink a lot of Water. i know that sounds dumb and i hate it when people say it to me, but it works when i do it. as long as it isn't within an hour or two after you ate. if you need to snack make it something low cal I guess...that is what i do.

welcome again, glad to meet you.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
