Restriction Is Bad !

Recommended Posts

Please dont be toooo tight, you wont lose, you will be risking a slip or erosion. I was in denial. You should be able to eat small portions of HEALTHY foods. I was thinking that being restricted would keep me from eating so much. This is WRONG. Please be careful with your band. I gained pounds the last 5 weeks and could hardly eat. When I PB'd I would swell and felt horrible. You can do this without feeling the restricition so much. The band isnt meant to STOP you from eating solid foods. If you are eating mushies and chips, ice cream etc, YOU ARE TOO TIGHT ! Be honest with yourself. Look at what you are eating, when you pb etc. This is your SIGN.

Good luck. DONT SLIP or risk EROSION Ya'll.

thanks. I just want to get the point across that too tight is not good. You hear about all the restriction on here, mornings being tight are fine but you should be able to eat moist meat, healthy foods. I cant eat breads or dry meat but that is okay. I can stop reaching for the bad stuff now!

I agree with your advice, but I think your title should be "OVER restriction is bad". A reasonable amount of restriction is the way the band works, but absolutely too much restriction is not advisable. If someone finds they have gotten to that point, I agree they should not wait months before deciding they need an unfill.

there has been a recent similar thread "unfill or ??" many examples of why being too tight is bad, in that thread.

Like you said: Eat Healthy Foods!

When I was over restricted, I certainly wouldn't consider eating ice cream or chips. I never eat ice cream or chips or candy or Cookies. I didn't pay $17,000 for this procedure for no reason. I ate Protein powder in Water which took me one hour to get down about 12 ounces. I did loose 7 pounds during the process which is at least the only plus I went through. You have to make wise food choices. At the weightloss center, they told me of a person who was over restricted for a year who would only eat ice cream. Needless to say, she didn't loose any weight.

I like the message here, but I see the title of "Restriction is bad" and swoon at the thought of all the newbies out there thinking to themselves, "Wow, if it's bad I better not go get my fill" -- then posting about why they aren't losing weight.

So for all of you out there, restriction isn't bad. Being too tight can increase your chances of complications, no doubt. But restriction is a natural state of being banded. Being OVER restricted for what your body can tolerate - different story.

I also have to say that eating mushies ice cream doesn't mean you're too tight. I'm not too tight and I eat ice cream because I want to eat ice cream. Again - I can just see a mass of people out there thinking, "I eat chips and ice cream, does that mean I'm too tight??"

I just wanted an attention grabber, tried to change the title but you get the point. I have had a close friend that did the really tight restriction, she lost weight, lost hair, got sick etc. she then had a slip and was very very lucky she got to redo the band and didnt lose it. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your experience. It's so important to work with your doctor on getting the best restriction but not going overboard. It's best to have too little than too much.

Hope things go well.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
