Besides the Obvious!! What is the difference in a 10 cc and 5 cc band?. Until today ( 3 weeks post op) i thought i had a 5cc band but i learned I have a 10 cc band. At surgery he inserted 4cc, today at my first fill, I swear he said he put in 3 more. Youd think id listen, but my FOUR children were with me (mom is in chicago, who else will take all 4?) So asap we left. I

feel good and drank a cup of Water b4 leaving. SO is this normal for a 10cc band and again what is the difference?:)

darn cat walked on my keyboard...

what i was saying was that i just asked my doc this a few days ago, and he said that the different sizes are just so that you get the best fit for your stomach. Once they get in, they might need a larger or smaller band. If they were to put one on that was too small, you might have too much restriction.

There's the obvious difference in capacity there are also differences in inner diameters, balloon construction, etc. I'm not sure I've heard of a 5cc band, perhaps he said 4cc? (Then again I've not paid much attention to non-Allergan bands). 4cc and 10cc are the Inamed/Allergan old standards. Their new ones are 10cc and 14cc.

In the pic below, 10cm = 4cc and VG = 10cc.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
