Can I eat steak and lobster before my first fill?

Recommended Posts

You might be able to. Some people have no restriction whatsoever at that point. Just take it slowly and chew very well. Don't expect to eat the quantities you ate pre band.

I am so happy to hear that, I am in the very early stages of this decission. My first doc's apt is May 2nd, but I must tell you that I am terrified about what I can eat and what I was told i will NEVER be able to eat again. I'm ok with the smaller quatities but its the NEVER again that I am so afraid of. Thanks for the hope that I can still enjoy good food in small quatities.

I can eat anything as long as I eat slowly, chew very well, and take small bites - I just had steak & lobster last week - a few bites of lobster & a few bites of meat - few bites of tatos - I can't eat the whole tail or the whole steak but can still enjoy it with just a smaller serving...

You will learn - life is no longer all about the food that you can consume - it's about eating to live not living to eat which was what made us fat in the first place...

I'm going on a cruise 7 weeks after my lapband surgery. Can I eat any steak and lobster before my first fill?
If steak and lobster are part of your 7th week post-op diet, and you personally are able to tolerate them (assuming you'll have at least one fill by then), then go for it. Unless you'd rather wait until you have a better feel for what foods you do well with, a better feel for how your fill reacts to different foods, etc. -- in which case you can get steak & lobster any day, and don't have to do it "right now".

It depends on your Dr's instructions. Each has a different routine. My Dr had me on solids at 2 weeks post op and told me to "try" to eat anything I could. At that point, because it was before my 1st fill, I could eat whatever I wanted. However now, after my 6th fill I can't eat steak anymore.

Thank you Indiogirl55. I almost feel like your message to me is a sign that I am doing the right thing, you see i have some family in Palm Springs CA that I miss and love dearly. I was just there visiting in Feb, and it was right after i returned that I decided that i was going to go forward making an appointment with my regurlar doctor to discuss the band. Well see what happens on May 2nd.

As Jung say there are no coindences :)

I love my band - I love me for the work I have done to change my eating habits and add exercise into my life - it is the best decision I have ever made in my life - I feel so much better (10 yrs younger) I hated exercise now I have a trainer. I have learned it's really not all about the food - food will always be there - prior to banding ate like there was tomorrow or I would never have the food of choice (aka drug) ever again - How stupid - food will always be there for us (hopefully) it's not like we are 3rd nation starving people - Not all bander can eat the same foods but - I have been lucky I can as long as I follow the rules - I eat healthy 98% of the time and allow 2% for treats - I just don't over do it or do it too often.

LBT is a great site for info & support ... Good luck on the 2nd - and if you are here in the Desert again - let me know ...

i was thinking,I'll have my first fill after the cruise so do you think I'll be able to eat a little lobster on the cruise?

Angel

When are you scheduled for your 1st fill??? Before the cruise ??? How much before the cruise - If it's right before i would say no cuz if you get too tight and can't get back to the doc to get some taken out you will be miserable - but if it like a week before - I would say get a fill - IMHO you were banded to control your eating and portions - to lose weight and be healthy - I for one would never not get a fill just cuz I was going on vacation - Remember it's not all about the food - food will always be there - even with restriction you may be able to eat lobster - I can but some can't - every bander is different - We can't guarentee you that you can eat lobster - you will only know if you try it. There are tons of people who don't get fills or even have some removed for vacations - but again imho that's stupid - it's not showing that you are changing your mentality about food or learning new habits - IMHO this is a lifetime lifestyle change - and it feels so much better to be healthy that unhealthy

This is your choice - only you know what's right for you - question that you really need to ask yourself - what's more important to you - why were you banded...

Good Luck..

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
