anyone here diagnosed with hypothyroidism? When I went to my PCP to get the referral to a surgeon, he gave me the referral, but said he wanted to check my thyroid. They called today with my bloodwork results and said I need to go on meds for my thyroid. I imagine this will delay any surgery (and possibly the consult )until it is under control? Anyone with similar experience, please let me know!

Thanks guys!

I was diagnosed like 6 years ago maybe? My insurance does have an exclusion in the WLS criteria that your thyroid needs to be in normal range for so long before approval but my surgeon's wonderful nurse got around it be addressing it right away... I'm not sure what she said but it worked! And something your PCP may or may not tell you - always take the medication alone on an empty stomach (either early in the morning or right before bed) they messed with my dose for over a year before telling me this, and it made a huge difference (4 or 5 points) once I started taking it the right way.

I am hypothyroid myself. I was diagonised 3 years ago and have been om medication ever since. It took my Dr. about six months to get me where I needed to be (as in dosage). I listed my condition as well as my meds on the assessment letter that my doctor sent to my insurance company. I actually found out that they did approve me for surgery today (despite having a thyroid condition). I think they look for okay bloodwork (as long as you are on meds) - but don't know that for sure. It may also depend on your insurance company. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions! :-)

Thanks! no my doctor didnt tell me that but I read it in the medication info. I didn't know if I could take it before bed-does it make you feel nervous, or did you have any insomnia? Did you lose any weight with it?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
