Liquid Diet, what is right?

Recommended Posts

I am really trying to figure out this whole liquid diet thing. On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week I really felt like my old self. As a result, I am ready to eat solid food. I know, I can't. However, with each doctor perscribing different things, what is the right thing?

I was just on the recipe site as this is the first year I am not hosting Easter for my family due to this surgery. (I didn't want to have to cook the "big meal") I offered to bring a Soup. LOL! At any rate, I see lots of soup dating way back and I am wondering what happened to those bandsters who made up soup recipes that pureed veggies, etc. in the "liquid stage".

I am fearful if I start blending things to liquid, which you can do with about anything, I might have trouble now or even later on with slippage or other things.

What are your feelings and have you felt like this, been through this, etc.? I need to just stick with what my doctor has perscribed. I am just so sick of soup and Protein Shakes. URGH!!!!

Look forward to all comments.

Your doctor wants you on liquids because no matter how good you feel, your insides are still healing from the surgery. Your stomach is not ready to digest more solid food. Your band and sutures holding it are still healing.

I know it's hard, but it's for a reason. Please stay on the stage of food your Dr. recommended and move to the next stage when your DR tell you it's ok.

Thank both of you. I needed to hear that. I am trying to be compliant but wanting to break all the rules. Thank you. :-)

We were once where you are now. It helped me to know there was a good reason for all the post op stages and like you, I wanted to do everything I could to help my band, so it could help me later. And it is!

Hang in there. I hope you get to move to the next post op food stage soon.

My doctor says that on the liquid stage the "food" should easily pass through a straw. So I think that pureed foods are out of the question. I am sticking with the broths.

When I was on post op bariatric full liquid I could have creamed or strained Soups, lite yogurt, thinned cream of wheat type cereals and SF pudding. If you don't get those you may want to check with your doctor to see if they would be okay. Definately follow your doctor's orders, you'll be happy you did. Lack of complications and all the lost pounds will make up for the few shorts weeks of lack luster food choices.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
