Did you have to lose more than 5% of your weight?

Recommended Posts

How much weight were you asked to lose before having your band done? How long did it take you? Was it more difficult as time went on?

By the time all is said and done I will have lost a total of 85 pounds since my first official weigh-in with my Surgeon. If I include my weight the day I started my supervised diet it will have been 97. I will have been on some form of a liquid diet since September 2007 and on some kind of diet since January 2007. I'm losing and I'm proud, but I'm kind of frustrated because now I've been asked to do a full on liquid diet after I went in for my band on the 6th and they were unable to do it. (There's a thread called "unfinished band? " if you're interested.)

Fat or not, 7-8 months on a liquid diet would be hard for anybody. Right now, it seems very hard.

Hi Panda Girl, I read your story about your unfinished surgery when you first posted it. You've had a really hard time on this journey.

I wish I had some magic words to help you. Would you consider buying a motivational book for help?

Several people have mentioned the Beck Diet book, which apparently is not a diet. I just ordered it for myself. I find if I am at a point when I am struggling a motivational book helps me get my head back in the game.

I know how much you want the band because I can see how hard you've worked, so do you have just a bit more fight left in you?

I hope so, you've worked too hard to let it all go now. I really want you to have success with this, you deserve it.

Panda,

I am 5'8 1/2" 335 lb apple shape, I was put on a 2 week all liquid Protein shake diet, I lost 11 lbs, but they didn't seem to care about the amount of weight just that it shrunk the liver, heck they didn't even weigh me before surgery, he said everything went fine in the surgery, and I am doing well...Keep up the good work, you can do it!

Thanks Shortgal, I'll look into the book. I've done the total liquid diet thing for 4 days now and have lost 4 pounds. I have eaten meat though, but without any sauces or carbs. I've basically intergrated Atkins into the diet, but only do it when I need to eat something. It's not exactly what the doctor ordered, but right now it's the best I can do. (Oh and tons of carrots!!!! I should be a rabbit by Easter!)

Mine cares about mine, the funny thing is others I knew who went to my surgeon in 2006 didn't have to do any kind of diet. I wonder what happened to change her mind?

You are doing great, smart move, staying on liquids and having a little meat when you need it, sounds very reasonable to me, with the circumstances you've been through.

You have such a strong determination to succeed, I know you will!

I was told I had to lose 10% of my weight, a requirement for all patients in the program even if their BMI is close to 40 (they submit the starting BMI to insurance). I started at 299 according to their scale and have lose 15 pounds in 5 weeks. So I have about another 15 to go.

I have to lose 5% (14 lbs) of my weight and don't even have a date for surgery nor have I been approved yet.

I think it's normal for them not to give a surgery date until after you've lost the required wieght. But....I was approved before they sent me to the surgeon. Who do you have?

Panda Girl, How are you doing? Staying strong? It must be so hard for you.

I have a band but don't have great restriction and some days (today) are a real challenge. Most people seemed to struggle yesterday (Easter) and I had no problem yesterday, but today I am have bad cravings! Go figure.

How many more pounds do you have to lose?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
