Help! I'm on a regular diet! more

Recommended Posts

And that means I'm eating like CRAP! Quick history, my doctor moved me straight to soft foods after 5 days on liquids because my body didn't react well to no food. After a week on softs, he gave me the okay to move to regular foods. Just to go slow and chew well. I'm doing that, but what I have found is that I have trouble with NOTHING! I'm not eating as much as I did preband, but I'm also not eating as nutritious as I probably need to do.

I was doing low carb for 2 months prior to surgery and I miss it. Do you think it is too soon to go to just a low carb diet again? These carbs are killing me. I haven't gained any weight back, but I'm not loosing anything either. I am so scared of NOT loosing weight, especially since I was self pay. I know that realistically, the band isn't working like it should without a fill, but I still feel like I am falling into old habits. I want to nip this in the bud NOW!

My surgeon pretty much put me on low carb from the beginning. Are you supposed to be eating carbs or something? If you're okay to eat regular foods, I don't see why you can't pick which foods to eat, in the way that you feel is healthy. I'd check with my surgeon if you're not sure, but it sounds reasonable to me.

You really want to avoid/reduce carbs anyway. Remember the bandster way of eating? Protein first, veggies second, and if you have room left, you can have some carbs. This is the standard for all bandsters. So get back on that low carb plan.

Low carbs is basically the bandster way. There is no reason in the world you can't do low carb. Other than my dr. kept me off red meat for 6 weeks.

You can eat soft cheese, cottage cheese, soft deli meats, egg salad, tuna salad, etc.

Allykat,

I am the same way. My doc gave me pretty much the same instructions. I too am finding that most anything will do down with the exception of chicken and some veggies which is crap because that is what I need to be eating. I am tired of living on cottage cheese and eggs and many other things that fill me up ar carbs. I had my first fill last week and it helped for a couple of days and now nothing. I just keep telling myself that it ahs only been four weeks and I am expecting too much. Hopefully it will get better with every fill.

Jaxbandster you are always so helpful and informative.

My addiction is bread, and I can't really get it down so, thats kind of worked for me.

Thanks, everyone! It was hard to do low carb when you are on soft foods, since it seemed everything recommended by my doctor was a carb item. I've been on regular foods for a week, and I've taken it slow with meats and trying new veggies. I think I am ready to eat low carb now that I've passed the salad test yesterday! Going to the grocery store today to stock up on low carb foods so that I will be set!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
