:angry_smile:Hey guys,

Was banded on Monday and today feeling a bit like normal, but every now and then when I move the wrong way, my port site feels like it pulls and huts like crazy. I get to shower today so I am headed to do that and take off my bandages to check everything out. Anyone else have this problem?

Its kind of funny, I thought I would be starving, but I have virtually no appetite and really have to make myself drink Water every hour and my Protein shake.

Going to take a shower and then chill on the couch.

-Tee

Mine bothered me quite a bit that first week so I'd say it's pretty normal. Sounds like you're doing great. Congrats on your band.

Tee,

Mine hurt too. I think it's quite normal. I believe they suture the port to your abdominal wall? If I'm remembering correctly. If you are concerned at all, please call your doctor's offfice. This is all new to you and you deserve to be comforted

They will not mind answering your question. Take care and best of luck to you. I

Have now lost 44 lbs so far and I am elated!!!!! My surgery was 9/25/07 and I have 4 cc's in a 10 cc band

In all reality - I had port site "tenderness" until about a week ago - I was banded on the 5th of February -- I think all of that stuff in there just needs time to heal.

Hey Tee,

That pain is very normal. If it was done the right way the Doctor makes an opening in your stomache muscle and then sews the port in place. Mine hurt for a couple of months after surgery, especially when I was sleeping or I would move just right. The abdominal muscles are very slow to heal.

thanks guys, comforting to know it seems pretty normal. Like ya'll said, if I catch it "just right" it stings, but it makes sense about the whole muscle wall site and healing. Getting up and moving around a bit better each day.

The port sight is the bane of the banders existence for a while! Mine hurt for around two months- well maybe hurt is too strong a word, but it was uncomfortable. Even after two months I could still feel discomfort there after strenuous activity. Even now, five months out, I feel sore there after working out. I just think it is a huge issue having something sewn to your stomach muscle and it's just the one part of band surgery that lingers for a while. At least you know now that it is common and you are normal! While in the shower it really helps to let the warm Water run over your port sight (as long as you are allowed to shower) You can also ice it, and that helped a lot too. By the way - it stays kind of sticky- outy and swollen for a while too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
