Is this normal for the first 6weeks?

Recommended Posts

Saw the dietician today and this is what they gave me for post op diet: just wanted to see if this is what you all are doing

Clear and Full liquids for two weeks: including strained broth, low fat cream Soups, cream of wheat, skim milk, light yogurt, diluted juice, Tomato juice, popsicles, crrystal light, Jello, pudding, carnation instant Breakfast, Protein Shakes

THEN: Pureed/Very soft foods for two weeks

THEN : Soft foods, for two weeks,

I guess then that would put me at six weeks and on to regular food, but she said to add food one thing at a time so that if something doesn't sit well, I'll know what it might be.

How does this all sound normal?

I feel like I'm going to be a grouch for the 6 weeks!

Oh and also! This she said is really important:

HAVE ONLY 1 CUP TOTAL FOOD PER MEAL 3 TIMES A DAY,

For instance:

1 large scrambled egg

1/4 hot Cereal

1/4 sugar free yogurt

1/4 light canned fruit===all equals a cup

I feel like I'm going to be starving! Did any of you find this?

My post op was very similar. You'll manage, each week you get to move to a new phase and that helps.

I was on a similar diet. When I went in for my two week check up the doctor told me that I could resume my regular eating at three weeks. He won't give me my first fill for six weeks. I did NOT resume my regular eating (I wish he would not have told me that). I am on fish, tuna, cottage cheese, Soups etc. I am not bored with the food and I WANT to lose weight while I am waiting for my first fill.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
