General Question about PBing...

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering what everyone's docs have said about what to do after a PB episode... liquids for 24 hours, 48 hours??? Is this clear fluids or just full liquids or do you stick to mushy or go back to regular eating?

I had a very slight PB almost a week ago and skipped the rest of that meal, but went back to normal eating later in the day. As of last night, I have so much restriction it is difficult to get my fluids down. My educated guess is that even thought it was slight, I should have done fluids for at least 24 hours after the PB. I think by continuing to eat normally, I turned the slightest irritation into full blown swelling and now I am paying for it. I am on full liquids (no other choice) for two more days until I see the doctor on Friday.

I hope this is all it is, but I thought I would ask what everyone else is doing.

Thanks for the feedback.

Sounds like you hit the nail on the head by guessing what happened. I have been there and done that. The day I was going to get the fill taken out, I was able to hold liquids down that morning, but went ahead with the unfill anyway...Good Luck to You!

Interestingly, my doctor has never addressed the question of what to do after a negative episode. At least, not in my hearing. But then, I've never asked him.

I know from my own experience to let my esophagus rest for at least three subsequent meals.

Kelly & Alex -- thanks for the feedback. I will let you know how I feel by Friday. I am doing a bit better with fluids this afternoon, so I hope by staying this course I will heal and feel better soon.

Thanks again.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
