I did not know that! Thank you for the scoop!

Good for you, angelsvoice! You can do it!

Lise, some surgeons recommend not using a straw to drink because you take in additional air, which could bloat your stomach and cause gas. Also, it's thought that people usually take bigger sips when drinking from a straw. Another one of those things that vary from surgeon to surgeon.

Something I tried today which was really good, Hills Bros Cappuccino French vanilla, granted it isn't sugar-free, they do have a box that is carb friendly, but I have missed my cappucino's so much, so I thought I would try it, put in the scoops in the Protein Drink added the crushed ice and OMG!!! it was so good. I have gotten on line and have ordered a cappuccino Protein drink and also from the same place got the DaVici's flavored syrups, hoping those arrive next week so I will have something else to add to these Protein Drinks, I'm pretty lucky with my doc. they only require you to be on liquids for two days after surgery and then start the mushies which I was surprised to hear it, but, I don't mind this protein drink "Amaze Rx" Creamy Vanilla Creme, I have read what everyone else is doing and my doc, doesn't want us to do the slim fasts, isopures, etc, I don't know why, but, yes on a protein drink with whey in it, this Amaze Rx was something they sold in the office "if" we wanted to purchase it from them, a little pricey but it is really good and I don't mind drinking it, I sip it and it lasts me about 2 hours, it has 21 g of protein per serving and they do want us to drink 2 of them a day plus 1-2 meals of low carb, so, like everyone has said, every doctor is different, granted the weight isn't coming off as good as if it was straight liquids, but it is coming off very slowly. Sorry for the babbling......

Hey Angel, I guess I will be seeing you in the hospital - the one that starts with an M, correct. I am Doc Malley's 12pm. I too am struggling with the pre op. Too much sweet. Yesterday I had a little trouble and ate two of the wontons that were in my broth from the Chinese rest., and then I ate a cold hot dog while standing in the refrigerator door, I do not eat hot dogs ever, let alone a cold on, and to top it all off I ate 2 bites of oatmeal cake that were just staring at me. So far so good today, but I am surprised it got to me so, I just needed to chew. I felt like a junkie getting a fix. We can do this, I also heard the first three days are the worst, we will see.

Hey Stacey!!!

I am the 9:00 slot. How cool is that? Yes we will win in this diet so hang in there too. What time will you leave for the hospital? I have to be there at 7:00. I already did my preop stuff this past Friday, so I will pretty much be chillin' while I wait my turn. Lets chat sometime. I would LOVE to have a "same day band buddy" for continued encouragement.

Sherry, thank GOD my metformin troubles have subsided. I pray that one day I will not have to take it. It did help me lose some weight though.

Angel - I have to check in at 9am. I did my prep on Mon, and I might say that their scale weighed in at 4lb more than it should have. I go to Malley's office in the morning to do whatever you do last minutes. How have you lost 49lb so far? I have lost 20lb since fall, but I must say I decided 2 years ago that I would not diet again so it has been very slow. I have done much better today with my preop diet, I thought I was going to freak yesterday. I have found that if I do not allow myself to feel actual hunger I am much more reasonable, as soon as real hunger hits and I am even 30mins behind on my shake I start to panic about needing something to chew. I have not been very nice to be around, my husband and kids are leaving me alone - very wise! I would love to chat and perhaps exchange phone #'s. Keep up the good work.

Well Stacy my highest weight was 358 at one about 2 years ago. I lost about 55lbs by changing a lot of my eating habits, but then I gained over half back. When I started the 6 month preop program I tipped at 335. When I weighed at Dr. Malley's office last week I was 318. When I weighed yesterday morning I was at 309. That has to be this liquid diet and the metformin. Metformin helps you lose weight too. So the 49lbs is an accumulative loss from my highest. I'll email you my phone number so we can talk. Sonya

P.S. I was EVIL my first day of the diet. But I live alone so I had peace and quiet at home. Work was a whole nother story. LOL!!

Sonya, I emailed my address so you can get me that way. I should have given you my number and I will. Email me seperate from this and I will. Just had my morning shake oh yummy! I am not sure if living alone would be better or worse for me but my husband cooked something for my kids on Sunday that smelled so good I had to cover my nose, and I was on another floor. I think if they would lock me in a jail cell for the 2 weeks I would do great and probably enjoy the break. Stacey

Hi- The Unjury chocolate Protein Shake is actually pretty good. Also, talk to your doc because you might need a little more carbs than you are getting. They had to increase mine pre-op because I am diabetic and I was shaking and sugar levels were getting low. I know it is HORRIBLE! The reason they need you to do this is that your liver has to be "Flat" in order to assist with the surgery. Make sure you are getting enough Protein, even if you have to drink it constantly because it will help you feel full and less shaky and nauseous. The first two to three days are horrible b/c you are sort of "detoxing." After that you will feel better and it will get easier. Also, maybe talk to the doc about not taking the metformin for a few days...

Day one of preop diet and I am struggling terribly!!!!!!!!!! The Body Fortress Protein shakes SUCK!!!! But I drank it anyway. I can't tell if I'm hungry or nausious. Anyone else feel like this? Is it all in my mind because I know I just can't go to the cafeteria and get some food? I am staying true to this diet though so I guess I'll eat some more Jello. Anything else you eat that is liquid and not sweet besides chicken and beef broth? Thanks for all who have gone before me who will help me get through this and pay it forward.

im on my 7th day of liquids my surgery date is march 26th! just take one day at a time im sick of Jello already but have been eatin alot of popsicles they help with feeling hungry! also try putting ur Protein Shakes in the freezer for a hour or two the colder the better!! GOOD LUCK!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
