I have BCBSNJ but I live in FLA

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has come across something like my situation. My insurance is bcbsnj and I did some searching on the website for bariatric services. The have 2 hospitals that are approved for the Bariatric surgery. But

they are in NJ and Delaware. So what does that mean to someone who lives in Florida? I have not contacted the ins yet but I will very soon. I am anxious to learn what the reason would be if they were to tell me that it is not covered in FL. Anyone with any ideas?

TIA,

Gina:confused:

Why do you have a NJ plan if you are a resident of FL? Do you travel seasonally between the two states?

I have Federal Employees' BCBS. I spend summers in Washington, and while I am there I am under Regents' BCBS in Washington. When I am in Arizona in the winter I am under Arizona BCBS. I just notify them of my change of address every six months.

Don't know if that is anything like your situation. If I were you I would call BCBS and ask them how things work in your situation. BCBS ultimately is a nationwide plan, so I would think you could find treatment closer to home.

I have BCBS of Jersey, and I live in Texas! Just find an approved provider, and you should be fine.

I dont know why it is bcbsnj. Your guess is as good as mine. I live in FL full time, don't travel at all. I will have to call my carrier and get the details. I hope and pray that they cover the surgery. I have had 2 other ins carriers and neither has provided coverage for the Lap Band. I could probably get approved for the gastric bypass or the sleeve but my first choice is the Band. I like the fact that it is less invasive and I can get back to work faster.

Oh well we will see. I'll let ya'll know what the outcome is.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
