Do you ever worry you'll be ugly afterwards?

Recommended Posts

Fitting into regular clothes is a big plus to weight loss. There is a similar thread going around the forum. They were mentioning how we lose weight and then start noticing other things, like noses etc.

I guess we were just so focused on weight as our problem, we didn;t notice the other things, until we start to lose.

you know....i'm so eagar to get this 123lbs off of me, that's all i'm thinking about right now. i'm not to worried about how my face will look once i'm finished loosing my weight; i've been skinny before when i was younger, so i kind of know what i'll look like.:sneaky:

p.s. i am worried about the excess skin though...

I got this off another thread somewhere on this site.

Did you hear the one about the fat girl who lost weight? Turns out she didn't have a pretty face after all!

Sounds like some of us fear that coming true. I'm not too worried about my face, but I am worried about excess skin. I don't know how elastic my skin is. Guess we'll see.

I don't look my age now and I do have that fear that I will look my age or older when I start to slim down. Right now, people peg me 8 to 10 years younger.

I know its weird, and I should be worrying about alot of other things, but I always felt not looking my age was my best feature. I know once the weight is off I will have lots of nice features all over the place, I just don't feel it yet.

My big fear is that I'm going to have these skinny little stick legs and arms but my stomach and butt are going to stay huge. I don't want to look like a pinto bean with limbs.

I think I already look like a Pinto Bean with limbs. But it's a VERY BIG pinto bean! :blushing:

LOL...me to Angel...

As far as looking ugly, I'm not so sure I'm worried about that, but I can tell you I have noticed way to many wrinkles around my eyes now and that bothers me. And...thanks to my lovely daughter for pointing it out to me! LOL....

There is a girl that I worked with who got a bypass done and now she looks like a Shar Pei!! To make matters worse she thinks florescent clothes with matching shoes are still in style!!!! Ughhhh... I just wanna take her and put her in front of a mirror and say "what's wrong with this picture"!!!

I do think the older you are when you lose the weight makes a big difference of how you will look when all is said and done. Honestly, I see older people who look better heavy then they do thin. PLEASE don't let that be me!!!!!!

Angelyco:

I have to say that I didn't have any wrinkles before I was banded. Now I have some, but I'll trade a few wrinkles for a few extra chins anytime!

Last week I saw my primary care doctor for a physical. The nurse who was doing my bp, etc. said she had to start a new page on my chart. She asked me how old I am. I told her 48 and she said "Wow you look great for 48. I would have guessed almost 40." That was great to hear, so I guess the wrinkles that I see are not that noticable to others yet.

You are so young you probably won't have wrinkles, but almost everyone who loses 100+ will have loose skin to deal with.

Hope all goes well for you.

Sue

I have some wrinkles showing up around my eyes and forehead now. I have a twin sister and I've always looked about 10 years younger than her. I always teased it was because my fat puffed out my wrinkles :huh2:

My face doesn't look as smooth (despite my new obsession with regenerist creams) as before so I don't feel that I look as young as I did. BUT, I wouldn't trade the weight loss it for anything!!!!!

Oh - and I'm almost the same weight as my twin now ... and I still look younger :cool2:

I want to know if your twin agrees with that!!! LOL:lol: or do you each think you look younger than the other?

My face looks so much better. It makes all the difference in pictures. I do worry about more wrinkles, but so far it's been okay. I still have 50 pounds to go, so we'll see what happens. I have always been much thinner in my upper body, including my face which is my best feature. My lower half is a disaster. I am not looking foward to seeing how bad the loose skin will get.

I think if I had a choice between "ugly" or "unhealthy" or even "dead" I am going to pick "ugly" every time.

But to answer the question, no I didn't worry about being unattractive after losing weight. But as it turns out the confidence that my new health has inspired has made me far more beautiful than I have ever been.

Wow, a few of you brought up something I hadn't thought of--I really hope that nobody ever doesn't have the surgery because they're afraid they'll look worse afterwards!

I would never sacrifice my health for vanity, this is just a question I've been pondering for awhile :huh2:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
