Can I stretch my pouch by drinking too much liquid?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if there is any restriction on how much liquid you can drink. I came back to work today and have been drinking herbal tea but I am wonderign whether I am OK to just drink it as I used to or whether I should be sipping it. I am 7 days post band but I would hate to stretch my pouch with tea!!!

I would sip it more slowly than you did in the past. As long as it's going in slowly, it'll slide right through.

Congrats on your first day back! The worst is behind you...

I think you'll be fine. It would be hard to get enough liquid pressure built up to stretch your pouch (hubby's an engineer--does it show?!?!). If I drink too quickly I can feel the liquid sitting in my esophagus on top of my pouch, not in it.

Of all the things you COULD be tempted with, I think you're safe with herbal tea! I was never much for hot tea before surgery but I'm addicted now. I actually look forward to my 0-calorie afternoon treat, bending my daily routine around my "cuppa". Whodathunk?!?!

I have only just been able to face any food at all. I dont know if it is my imagination but I feel the pouch filling up after very little yoghurt or tea. I had thought that these woudl just pass straight through, but I guess they take a while. I think that gas is a problem as well still. I am terrified of causing a blockage or stretching the pouch.

It sure takes some getting used to..

You sound like me! It took me a week to get up to 500 calories a day, and I

never went through bandster hell. I wasn't even excited about my first fill--I was afraid it would change things, and I was perfectly happy!

Here's wishing you the same success...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
