Went to doc for first time

Recommended Posts

I went to the doctor for the first time yesterday. He told me that i wasn't a candidate for lapband. That he thought I would benefit better from Gastric Bypass surgery.

I agree with southern miss. Have a consult with a second bariatric surgeon.

There are many on the forum that have lost more than 100 pounds. Look around, there is a whole section for people that need to lose over 100 or have a higher BMI.

I'm sure you've looked into the differences between the two surgeries.

Many advantages to lap band with the biggest difference is rate of weight loss. GBP wins that.

I had the same problem yesterday when I saw the surgeon for the first time. He said he would do the lapband but it probably wouldn't work for me. I really DON'T want to do the gastric bypass. I'm thinking I am going to go with my gut feelings and stick with the lapband and if it doesn't work then thats ok.

On the TV show "Big Medicine" last night. A girl that was over 300 pounds wanted GBP and most surgeons wouldn't do her becasue of lupus and clotting disorders she had. But the Dr on the show said he would do surgery and he thought Banding would be better for her becasue it was less risky for her other problems. Her ins would not pay for band only GBP, so they did the GBP.

But she had lots to lose, too. so I don't understand the thinking of some Dr.'s. I know they say you can eat "around" the band. But you can eat around GBP, too. difference is, banding is safer procedure.

Many of the GBP patients have low Iron and blood counts after GBP, and that puts them at more risk with PS procedures or any surgery later in life.

Just my two cents. But you can check on this forum and there are people that have lost 150 pounds.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
