I was banded the end of July of 07. I have only lost 62 lbs but not really complaining about the weight loss. My problem is I think maybe I am developing an allergy to the band. Has anyone experienced an allergic reaction to the band and what were your symptoms?

It is highly uncommon to have an allergic reaction to the band... especially after so many months. What are your symptoms and have you notifed your surgeon. By the way, your weight loss is great.

Elizabeth, I have been feeling light-headed, my hands are numb and cold intermittently. Also, I have been very tired even after going to bed very early. I feel ok then at work about 10:00am I can barely keep my eyes open. I don't drink as much Water as I should. I did make an appt with my pcp. Also, my body is weird. I have a super infection (pseudomonas) in my sinuses which I have had for a few years, this could also be causing my symptoms. My doctor believes I am a carrier and have made numerous attempts to irradicate it to no avail. At first I thought it was not getting enough food because of the problems with my band but after most of the Fluid was taken out I am still having the same problem even though I am able to eat more.

I doubt those symptoms are related to a band allergy. Being tired, feeling cold, and light-headedness are symptoms of hypothroidism. Your infection might be getting worse or you could also be anemic from not enough Iron (very common in women). I would really urge you to see an MD and have bloodwork done to start ruling problems. Please keep us posted on what you discover and take care of yourself... hoping you'll soon be feeling better.

Have you had any bloodwork drawn lately? Were you on meds before surgery and if so has your Dr. checked to see if the dosage is right or needs modification, now that you've lost weight?

Have you seen an ENT ( ears , nose and throat specialist) for the chronic sinus infection?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
