Banded on 2/27/08--need help

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Well my first 24 hrs was rough.. I took the Loratab when I got home from surgery and well lets just say..no affect..it kept me wired.. I didn't sleep for the first 24 hrs, and no pain relief. So I finally got some percocet that I have to cut up in little pieces..but it works. When they did the band I also had a hiatal hernia repair. I am wondering if this is what is making it harder to swallow the pills or drinks.. I had a horrible runner's like cramp in my side for the first 2 days...I know from reading that the stitch in the side is from gas..that is better. I feel full after only taking a 1/2 cup of broth. Is that normal? Also I keep getting muscle cramps in my legs... anyone have any suggestions of what I can do for that? I am still on liquid stage.. I did buy me some egg drop Soup to make. Can I eat that on this stage or wait till cloudy? Swelling has gone down a lot thanks to sleeping with a heating blanket. I guess I am just mainly concerned about the muscle cramps, not getting enough of potassium, if I can eat the egg drop soup, and if this is normal about me not being able to swallow much. When I went for the barium swallow the rad tech said that my esophagus was tight, but that is normal right from swelling? OK sorry..have a lot of questions...but if anyone can answer some I would greatly appreciate it..thanks guys..

Hi there I was rebanded due to a slipp on the same day as you! So it is like starting over and because the first time was 3 years ago it feels like starting all over, I too have the same pain on my side that I have chalked up to gas also. But it does seem to get better a little each day! I had the smaller band the first time so it was always tight the one he put in this time is the bigger band so I am able toget more down at this stage and maybe because I already had the band its less tight at this point than you r is because it is initally placed keep in touch with me and we will get better together!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
