I am having my lapband on Friday, March 21st. I thought that my kids would be off the following week for Spring Break. I didnt plan it that way because of course I am taking the first thing they offered. It just worked out that it is on Good Friday and my husband is off work. So he wont have to take a day off. I just found out that my kids are not off the following week afterall. They are off the week after that.

Will I be able to drive on Monday after my surgery on Friday? I live in the country down a very long lane. I take my Dd to the end of the lane to catch the bus. I am not too concerned about that since I wont be out on the open road. But my son goes to preschool in town and I have to transport him. Will this be a problem? Will I be on strong pain meds? It is just preschool so if he misses it isnt a biggie. I am just curious. I will be asking my doc about this. Just thought some of you could give me an idea.

I can only share my experience. I was banded on Wed/came home from the hospital on Thursday and drove on Sunday. I could have driven sooner, but didn't. I was not taking pain meds, not even Tylenol except for the first day and I only took 2 doses. But everyone is different. Just tell the preschool he might/might not be there and then see how you feel. Frankly, I don't think you'll have a problem. But if you are on pain meds, I would definitely not take the kids, period!

Trust me, if I am on prescribed pain meds I won't take a chance with my babies. I just didnt know what was normally given 3 days out. If I can just take a tylenol that will be great!

The biggest reason they don't want you to drive for a week is because of the anestesia. I t takes a full week for it to leave your body, and I guess you could have some type of issue with that.

I was told not to drive for 2 days. I'm sure I could have but I didn't need to so I didn't.

My doctor told me I could drive if I wasn't taking any prescription pain meds. I didn't need any, so I could have driven in a day or so. Check with your doctor to see what he'll give you.

As long as you don't take the Vicodin, I don't see why not. I went back to work 4 days post-op (security patrol).

As long as you are not taking any pain medications, you can drive. I think it is best that your kids have the following week off. You will probably be just fine by then and able to enjoy them home with you.

Take care and good luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
