Thinking about having the Lap Band surgery...

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!!! Well, to get straight to the point I am thinking about having the lap band surgery. I have been doing a lot of research on the surgery, and everyone seems to rave about how great it is. However, I feel like I may be missing the hard things that I will have to go through. Basically, I would just like to hear your experiences, good and bad, just so I will know what to expect.

Cant wait to hear all about it!!

Roxy

Other than tender port site in the beginning... I can say no bad. It is not all fun and games, all the time.. but hay, I've lost over 100#! I would do it all again if I needed to.

Scared going in, wondered WTH I had done to myself afterwards for a couple days. But really, it wasn't that bad and I would DEFINITELY do it again. The pain in the grand scheme of things wasn't the worst I've ever felt and I've never had open surgery like this before. About 1-3 days post-op (I can't remember, exactly) I was up and walking a mile around my neighborhood. I went back to work at 4 days post-op. Felt MUCH better at about 10 days post-op.

Have had pretty steady loss. I'm at 6.5cc in a 10cc band which was great restriction when I first got it...it's starting to loosen up, though. Have not PB'd or slimed, yet. There is no food off-limits for me - it all goes through if I chew well enough.

Almost halfway to my goal and only 3 months and 10 days post-op.

There are 2 forums here you should probably check out, 1 is the complications forum, and the 2nd is a forum for people who've had to have their bands removed. You might check those out for information.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
