first fill, what to expect?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was banded at the end of December and will be going in for my first fill, I am curious what to expect? Do I need to "liquid diet" before? When can I resume "normal" food? Will I finally feel more restriction? I am crazy busy working on my Master's degree and am wondering if I should plan a Friday in case I am sore the next day? I know I should be calling my doctor and asking the questions, but I haven't had time to call yet and I usually get more in depth answers from those who have actually had the procedure.

Thank you in advance for your advice.:biggrin2:

Peace,

Spiffy

Every one is different... Mine is... normal foods before, liquids after, mushies next day.

Small needle to numb the port site, bigger needle to do the fill, with floro/xray. No discomfort next day, just mushie foods. Never a big deal in my experiences- but others may say other.

Yes, Anxiety is an evil thing!!! The anticipation is almost always worse than the reality. Thanks for your replies.

Good luck on this journey we call life!!!

No reason to go on a special diet before your fill. My instructions for resuming foods after my first fill were - 24 hours of liquids only, then the next day soft foods, then slowly introduce solids. It took about 3-4 days before solids would really go down well (they still sort of sit there..my fill was only 6 days ago). I wasn't sore after the procedure at all. There was no recovery, it's just a little stick with a needle. Nothing at all to worry about. No need to plan for any downtime.

I do a normal diet before - especially since I'm supposed to do Clear Liquids for 3 days after, I don't want to starve to death the first day. I seem to swell alot after a fill, so I have to be pretty careful about introducing solid foods. For three days or so I am kind of careful and don't try anything crunchy or hard. After that, I'm ready for any food out there! With your first fill you may not have much restriction, the swelling issue didn't start until my 4th fill, just play it by ear and listen to your body.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
