Did any of you, I know some must, have BIG calves before surgery and if so, did they go away after the weight loss?

I have super sized calves. Even when I was thin I had large calves. Besides my bottom belly its the only thing that irks me about my body.

My calves are 15 and were 15 when I started out and still are. My legs do look a lot smaller, and I must have lost some weight in them, but the tape measure hasn't changed. Not a lot you can do about big calves. It's hereditary more than anything. Most you can hope for is losing weight in your feet and ankles to give you some shape. Unfortunately I have always been cursed with fairly thick ankles too so I have to be careful with shirt/pant lengths (I can only wear SOME of the longer cropped pants and skirts need to hit about halfway down my shin in order to bypass the bulk of my calf and I will never be a good candidate for shorts or bermudas....)

I have lost inches in my calves but it didn't happen fast. I noticed it first when my slacks fit loosely over the calves and THEN measured to make sure I really was shrinking in that area too.

My calves have always been large but they are all muscle. My hubby has always joked that he wish could get calves like mine. I am down 60lbs and have only lost 2 inches in my calves. They went from 17 to 15inches.

I have definitely noticed a difference in the heifers. They used to be full grown, now they are slimming down. I don't have a recent measurement and since I've lost 15 lbs since the last measuring, I think there's a difference. I wear boots for work that go 8" up my calves and they have DEFINITELY gotten looser. DH and I have the same boots and I HATED seeing the huge gaping opening that was the top of my boot compared to his. That has slowly gotten smaller and smaller as I have had to keep tightening the laces to keep my socks from falling down.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
