I'm not sure what kind of band I have

Recommended Posts

After reading the whole Realize Band drama thread, I am left wondering what kind of band I have. I didn't ask the brand name. My surgeon assured me it was one that inflated all the way around instead of only partway. He also said it was a 4 cc band. So with those two criteria, can anyone tell me what kind of band he used? He also uses the LapBand literature and advertisements in his office. I can always ask him when I go for my first fill, but figured some of you well-educated people might be able to tell me.

I'm not sure what band you have. Call your surgeon's office and ask to speak with an NP or a PA. They can tell you for sure.

ShinyhappyMommy -You have one of the older Inamed LapBands, either the 9.75 or 10 size - your surgeon is incorrect, those are not 360 and are single reservior. However they are pre-curved, unlike the Realize band. They are still very good bands and still more more advanced then the Realize band although the Fluid distribution is not as even as the AP. You will do fine if you stick with the program - Honestly, don't worry about it. A lot of inameds trials were done with those bands with outstanding results.

Shiny,

I thought I understood you to say the doctor said yours is inflated all the way (360). Since you were banded so recently I can't imagine that your doctor would use the type that doesn't inflate all the way.

But checking with your doctor is the only way to know for sure. But you'll be fine regardless. My DH has the older LapBand (for two years) and hasn't had any problems. Apparently the stomach doesn't care too much how equal the inflation is all the way around. At least his doesn't. LOL

Honestly, it doesn't really matter that much from a weight loss perspective. Any of the ones being currently used are good bands. The Realize band has a lot of good support from the company but if your doctor has a good education program you can get the support there, too. I asked my doctor and he told me what I have. I filed it under useless trivia. Remember, too, that there will always be newer, better bands being developed (like the one that is filled with remote control, no needle sticks) and it is like buying a computer "Oh, I want the new, better one!!!" But we can all lose weight with what we have!!! Ask your doctor, he'd probably be more than happy to tell you.

I found out today that my band is a 10cc AP band. He said small band, and my mind inserted the 4ccs. Small was 10cc compared to 14 cc.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
