What is the "pressure" I feel in my chest since my 1st fill?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I had my first fill on Tuesday (2/19). It was a fairly aggressive fill (3cc), but I have been doing pretty well on my liquids and soft foods. The only odd sensation I have noticed is a consistent, slight pressure in my chest (I am guessing right where the band is). I would describe it as a tightness as well. A few hours ago, I tried to eat a crunchy soy chip. I chewed it up very well, but when I swallowed it, I felt a slightly sharper pain in that area. I immediately went back to soft foods, and there was no more sharp pain. My doctor told me that after my fill, I should do 24 hours of liquids, followed by no specific period of soft foods, and then slowly re-intoduce solid foods.

I am wondering if that pressure, or tight feeling in the chest is normal in the first few days after a fill. Since it is my first fill, I have no idea what a normal fill feels like, or if I need a slight unfill. I have had no problem with keeping down liquids, PB, vomiting or sliming. Any insight would be helpful!

You're probably swollen and irritated. Think about it - you have a plastic band around your stomach and it just got tightened. I'd be frustrated and swollen too! ;-)

I get that, as well as a LOT of gas that sits just under the band. I had my third fill Monday and my stomach is still kinda cranky and gassy, but hopefully it will settle down in a few days. At least all that gas makes you feel full!

burping and farting away....

Thanks..that makes sense. Having the band filled is such an odd feeling! Sometimes I can even feel liquids "gurgling" through the opening. I guess I'll stick with soft foods for another few days!

Crunchy chip-like things are the worst for me. Especially this soon after a fill...be careful! The pain you are feeling is restriction and your chip isn't going down!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
