Please help..strange pains.

Recommended Posts

For the past 2 days I have awoke in the A.M. with what feels like hunger pangs. They come in waves or intervals of about 2 seconds each, about 10 seconds apart. They are pretty painful..now get this..they are stopped by eating. They go away for about 2 or 3 hours and return again. When I eat they go away. They seem a little too painful to be regular hunger pangs. I am on regular food per my doc. This happen to anyone else? :confused2:

It feels like right in between where my ribs meet, where my stomach is (probably where my band is I guess). I've had my gall bladder removed a couple years ago, so it's not that. I was banded on 2/4/08.

Hunger pains can be pretty darn painful for me these days, If I'm really STARVING. Dont know why but it has been like that since I was banded. Every now and then they're really really bad.

I had those same type of pains. For me, I had them my first week post-op and it felt like a wave of pain that would sometimes accompany actual hunger grumbling. I think it was just that my stomach was irritated from the surgery and so hunger pains were actual painful. Now, they're gone and when my stomach growls, it doesn't hurt.

How long ago were you banded? Of course, the prudent answer to your question would be to ask your surgeon.

When I was right around where you are post-op, I had hunger pangs from hell. I'd be ending my night at work and driving home and get the loud gurgle and very hard cramp of my stomach. It was because I had ended my eating for the day about 4 hours prior and my body was hungry. I have no idea why they hurt more after banded. Maybe it's the pulling on the band when the stomach contracts? I have no idea.

Yes - this happens to me - my doc said it was because I was not taking in enough calories - he said it was because my "gluycose" level dropped. Hope this helps.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
