Rash after being banded 2-4-08

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 2-4-08. I developed a rash all over my torso. The port incision is the worst, every other incision was effected as well. Went for my post op visit w/ surgeon and he advised me to use benedryl cream. Made the rash worse it spread over my body into red pimples very itchy. Went to dermotologist and was advised that I must have had an allergic reaction to something they used during surgery. They seem to think the iodine prep. I'm not too sure if I belive them seeing that I've had two prior surgeries and never had a problem like this before. The rash developed about 5 days after surgery. I am on an antibiotic cream, steriod cream and prednisone, hoping this will work.

I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this, I'm very upset.:tongue2:

Are they sure it's not a latex allergy? People sometimes develop the allergy even after no prior reactions to it. Latex is in alot of health care items, band aids, gloves, some instruments that are used.

Sorry you're having problems, hope u feel better soon.

I told them I was allergic to latex they advised me that they didn't use anything with latex. And the dermatologist said that if it was latex it would have shown up sooner. I don't know who to believe any more.

Jen, I must tell you, you are not alone. The exact same thing happened to me. I had my surgery on Jan 2. and on the 9th I started breaking out all over my stomach. My incisions looked terrible. It just happened overnight. It was the craziest thing. It even spread to my arms. I finally got into a dermatologist and they told me, I must have been allergic to something that was used in surgery. But why in the world did it take so long to show up??? Anyway, after getting a steroid shot and using some prescription ointment, it finally cleared up. The dermatologist wanted to put me on prednisone as well, but my surgeon that placed the lapband said lapband patients shouldn't take steroids. Not sure exactly why. Anyway, it took a good two weeks to clear up. I was so afraid it was the band. Hang in there, it will get better!! Take care ~ Jennifer

I got a rash too, bad, and itchy, it happened about 5 days after surgery. My primary care doctor gave me a foam cream to use, Olux I think, and it worked. Said I probably got a latex allergy too.

I use latex bandaids on other parts of my body, but I tested and put a latex bandaid on my abdomen after the rash cleared and gave myself a rash again. So I guess I am only sensitive on my abdomen.

This happened to me also we came to the conclusion that i was alleric to the glue that they stick on your stomach when they do the surgery, I was also alleric to the glue from the steri strips.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
