So hard to have patience when completing pre op requirements

Recommended Posts

I have had a long hard road on the way to insurance approval... Probably not as hard as some but we all have our issues. I have BCBS of Minnesota. I was required to:

  1. Have BMI over 40 (I am 43)
  2. Medically supervised diet for 6 months
  3. Letter of recomendation from my doctor
  4. Proof of overweight for 5 years or more

The medically supervised diet is the worst thing in the world it's taking forever and I resist the urge to call insurance daily to confirm that I have to do it lol. I have been to 4 appts for the diet and my 5th one is in less than 2 weeks! But I am going insane

I guess I am just venting because it's hard not to do a tour of foods!

You are almost there!!!

But....get used to the requirement of patience!!! It seems it is always something we are working for---to get to Onederland---then to lose a set amount of weight.

Right now I have been sitting by my phone waiting for them to call with my PS referral---and they did----the appointment is not until March!

So if you have any patience to spare-----send it my way!!!

You will get there--you have the most of it behind you now!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
