Pounds Vs Muscle

Recommended Posts

Whipeeeee, I just came from the doctors office and got another 1cc, I've lost 29 lbs, but I've gained 12 lbs of muscle, which equates to 41 lbs lost:banana :banana :banana.

My nutritionist really made my day. I was rather depressed over the little weight loss for three months, then she explained all the muscle vs fat, I'm on cloud nine.

Explain how you know how much muscle you have gained vs the weight.

Congrats on the weight loss, and don't forget to change your ticker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have a scale you have to step on barefooted, then the diatician punches in your weight, height, age, previous weight and fat info, ( I had this done prior to surgery) and then it spits out this piece of paper with all the info on it. My doctor said she rarely gives a "way to go girl" remark on your record, AND my BMI is down to 33.8.

I think it was hiding under the fat.

When I told my son, who goes to the gym 4-5 times a week, he gave me a hug and said, "That's great Mom, just imagine the results IF you'd been doing something, like...even using the treadmill".

Kids, even if he is 27, ya gotta love the smart ashes.

excellent Pat - well done! I was becoming very disillusioned too about low weight loss before my last fill, so I did my measurements and found I had lost 35" over all! So the scales isn't the only measure of success!

That's cool!! I know my Dr don't have one!! Wish he did.

It's just a body fat test. When you determine what your body fat is, you can determine what your lean muscle mass is. Let's say you weigh 300 lbs, and your body fat is 50%. That means you have 150 fat pounds, and 150 lean body mass pounds. If you lose 100 lbs (now weighing 200 lbs) and then are 20% body fat, you have 160 lean body mass lbs, and 40 fat lbs. So, even though the scale shows you've lost 100 lbs, you've really lost 110 lbs of fat, and put on 10 lbs of muscle. (At least, that's how the measurements work.)

Keep in mind that scales that do body fat measurements work on hydration levels in your body, so you need to use them at the same time every day (hoping for the same hydration level) for them to be accurate over any short periods of time. (I'm sure the one at the doctor's office is of a higher quality, and thus more accurate than a $40 scale you'd buy for home.) The caliper tests are pretty accurate if the person using them knows what they're doing. And, of course, the submersion tests are very accurate.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
