Update on our Journey

Recommended Posts

I have been watching this site alot. and posting occasionally, My husband and I both hope to be banded in the future. We both have seen our PCP who whole heartly agreed to put together a referral letter for both of us. We have both been under his care for 14 years. Yeah we have weight loss history (and weight gain :ermm ) He has faxed them to Dr Boutt and Bhesnia in Port Huron Mi. Dh had his psych consult yesterday and mine is Friday. We both have a consult with the banding Dr March 28th. So far everything is going smooth I just hope BCBS says yes to the preauthorization. We hope we can be banded in the summer. It makes no difference to me when. I am a RN want work contingent (when I want) But my dh is self employed and our 17 yr old will be out of school for the summer and ride in the truck and do the physical part. So he hopefully only has to take a week off staying home. Just thought I would update everyone. I weight 280 5'4" and dh 360 6'0. I enjoy this site. And have hopes it continues an its present positive path.

Shamrock: Good luck on your Insurance dealings. IT can be daunting but in the end it is all worth it. Take lots of before pictures cause you won't believe the differences. Take you measurements as well. I am glad I did. I can see that since banding I have lost 31.5 inches. That is just as amazing as the weight loss to me. SO get measurements as well as pics.

Keep up the fight it will be worth it in the end. We are here for you.

hi shamrock

glad to hear things are moving along for you.. must be so hard having to wait for your insurance to come through.. in the uk its either private pay or up to 2 yrs waiting on lists to have the op and only then if the health trusts agree to funding.

good luck

love trace

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
