Starting the process in NC

Recommended Posts

I never thought I would even consider this surgery, but now I can't wait to get started. Im in Raleigh NC and have an appointment with Dr. Joseph Moran on the 26th of Feb. I go to the information session tonight and have already started all the paperwork for insurance. How long is a normal wait period between consult and actual surgery?

Also, I am borderline on the BMI, I actually fluctuate weekly between 39 and 40 within 5 lbs. (and I do have high blood pressure) should I be concerned about this as far as being approved?

Is anyone out there in the Raleigh area thinking of the surgery or post op?

And do you really have to give up carbonated drinks? lol yikes:drool:

Hello Walkbyfaith, I started my process back in early November and am still waiting. All my paperwork is submitted and I am now waiting on the Insurance approval. Good Luck it all takes time.

Hello and welcome to LBT!

As far as the wait time, it honestly varies with everyone as there are so many factors involved. If you have insurance, there may be different requirements involved, such as a supervised diet. Most doctors require various testing, etc. I was self pay and for me things went very quickly. From the time I attended my seminar to the time I had my surgery was only about 3 1/2 weeks.

As for carbonated drinks, yes, you really do have to give them up. I was a major diet coke addict. I drank it for Breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between. I never thought I would be able to give it up. But I did and I don't miss it at all. The one time I took a small sip of something carbonated, I didn't like the feel of it, the taste or anything.

Let us know how things go at your appointment and don't be afraid to ask as many questions as you want. The more knowledge you have about the process, the better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
