First baby in 40s

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone here has had or is having their first pregnancy in their 40s. I'm 41, will be having the op in October, then next year my partner and I want to try for our first child. Just curious if anyone has been here and if so, how it all went.

Hi Michelle,

I actually had my children when I was in my 20's. However, my brother married late and he and his wife didn't start having children until they were in their forties. I believe she was 42 with the first and 44 with the second one. The doctor monitored her pregnancy more closely than they normally do with someone younger, but she had no complications with either baby. Both went full-term and were beautiful, healthy babies.

hi! i was banded in july 06 and got pregnant last august by ivf when i was 39 so i will be having my first at 40. i have been very lucky with few problems. i lost the twin in october which we we told would probably happen as it wasn't growing well. i am on a low dose of hpb meds and am waiting for the results of my gestational diabetes test. keep your fingers crossed! i have gained about 20 lbs and have 12 weeks to go but i will admit i have eaten everything the last 3 weeks i can't seem to stop. i will say it is recommended to wait 2 years post band before you try but due to my age, my doc gave my fertility doc the go ahead so talk to your doc before surgery, esp if you will be doing fertility because i had to have written permission from by tummy doc before they would start the process. good luck!

I just got my band, so I didn't have it when I had my twins. I just wanted to say hi to you from a another over forty first time mom: I turned 42 just two weeks after my boys were born. Now they are almost 5! (I didn't have any complications and went full term for twins-38 wks). I did have to go through 3 cycles of IVF to get them, so start as early as you can!

Hello - Yes, I had my first child 10 months ago - I am 43. I had him through invetro. I am scheduled to be banded on March 20th. I definitely need to be at a "normal weight" with a child who is going to be walking soon.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
