hi all--

I have been lurking around the internet, but this is my first foray into the boards. I was just approved for surgery last week and have my first consult with dr. quilici in Burbank, CA on February 27th. I am hoping to have the lapband.

My emotions have run the gamut--I really want to have the surgery, but the process is scary and overwhelming. Thanks for reading.

WoooHooo!!! Approval!! Welcome Libby!

Sit down and start reading!!! There is tons of info to be shared here! You will find an entire group of people being banded in your time range, and will have an opportunity to develop wonderful friendships!

Feel free to ask any questions you have----make yourself at home, this is a friendly site, and most of us have been where you are heading into this---and many are still hoping to get that approval!

Once again--Welcome to LBT!!

Hell Libby,

It may seem scary now, but its not really. Just take each step as it comes. Do the consults required. See whoever's required. Get blood work done when required. Try not to stress too much about it right now.

After the op you pretty much won't feel like anything but fluids as far as I can tell. Then you slowly move on up to solids. If there's an issue (like pain) you deal with it. Just take a deep breath and put one foot in front of the other and you'll be fine hun.

The boards is a great place to learn a lot and make some friends. Many people of all ages here. I go to see my PCP for a referral to a surgeon I hope next week. I hope he doesn't make me jump through too many hoops. I want the band and I want it now. Know what I mean! But for insurance to pay I have to play the game. Good luck to you and enjoy the boards.

Hi Libby,

I'm new to this as well and have my first consultation with Dr. Quilici next week. I know you posted your original thread a couple of months ago so I'm interested to see how its going for you now. What did Dr. Quilici make you do or what tests did you have to do? I'm trying to get a general timeline of things to look forward too.

Thanks!

Susie

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
