Starting the process in Connecticut..

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone..

I found my way to these boards today, and wanted to do a quick intro..and then start reading!!

I've been trying to make up my mind if this is the right thing to do.. and I really think it is. I'm going to a seminar at my local hospital next Tuesday night and I can't wait to hear more about it..and get this ball rolling!

I called my insurance company and they said that they will cover me 100% with the correct BMI and a letter from my primary care giver..so i'm going to make an appointment with my doctor this week too.

I'm weighing in at about 218 these days, and since i'm only 5'1 ..that puts my bmi at a nice round 40.something.. so I think I should fit in around here..

Can't think of anything else.. hope to learn some more about the band on here tonight..and hope to meet some more CT people!! :smile2:

Hi! I'm in Arizona and I'm just starting out too. My ins. says they will cover it with proof I need it from my PCP. I'm attending a seminar on Wednesday. And then I will be making an appt. with my PCP. I'm hoping to have lunch with a few other lap bandsters that live near where I do on Friday. I'm glad someone ( and there are many of you here) so young is getting control of their weight. I am 51 and I weigh about 221 with a bmi of 39. something. I only wish I had gotten control of myself while in my 20s. This forum is a great place to meet others and to get all your questions answered. Well most of them. I am scared and excited and apprehensive and happy to have pretty much made up my mind to do the lap band thing. Have you done much research? Do you have some support? My best support is my husband. Good luck to you. Becky

Welcome, Ladies. Make sure you are well informed on all options before making any decisions. Don't forget to ask lots of questions when you talk with the surgeon and his/her team. There is a wealth of information on this forum so read, and post often.

Kristen: Welcome, I'm from Ct, too. We have a Ct group on the forum.

Connecticut - Lap Band Talk Forum - The largest forum for Lap Band Surgery Discussion and Lap Band Surgery Support

We are close to the same height and starting weight, but I'm twice your age!

I was banded end of November and have lost slow but regularly. I did not have to do a liquid pre-op diet. I do not have good restriction yet, so continuing to lose is taking a lot of willpower ( which is fading).

What part of CT are you in?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
