How many calories do you eat a day?

Recommended Posts

How many calories are you all eating a day?

I'm curious because I've always been told you should eat a minimum of 1200 calories a day to avoid "starvation mode". If I was still going to Weight Watchers, they would recommend 1400-1500 calories a day for my weight. My doctor says I should eat 1000 a day.

What do your doctors say?

My doc never said. I averaged around 1500 a day, maybe up to 1800. I still eat around that to maintain now. Perhaps 1800 more often than not.

When I hadn't lost for a while recently, I went back to keeping a food Log (as I did in the six months prior to surgery for the nutritionist).

I was surprised to find that my calorie count was between 600 and 850 a day--so I didn't make any changes downward and sure enough the weight eventually began to drop again.

Here's my motto: my surgeon is my leader and I follow his instructions implicitly! You've put your trust in him up until now--so just continue and follow his recommendations...

My doctor said 1000 cals per day but I have not managed to stick with that since the first 6 weeks or so. When I count what I've had at the end of the day I find I'm having easily 1500+ a day. My weight loss has stopped because I'm eating way more than I should. I have joined the Spring Weight Loss challenge and hope to lose 11 lbs by March 20, so will really need to watch what goes into my mouth.

who counts? not me, I do low carb. I eat till I'm satisfied, I snack when needed. I sometimes blow it but compared to what I use to eat! life is good (no fills)

600 - 800 cal per day. I am just now finding it easy to get in 800 a day. Up until a week ago I was averaging 300 - 400 a day (on liquids and mushies.) I just couldn't seem to get enough in, and got full really quickly. I get my first fill on 2/27.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
