Disappointed With Lapband

Recommended Posts

I was banded 11-07 and lost 25 pounds on liguids over the next three weeks while I got better. Since then I havent lost one pound. Ive had two fills for a total of 2.5cc. Doctor Jossart @ SF laprosopic associates says 4 cc will be max. And if I go there "I wont be able to swallow my own saliva". I dont "sabotage" by eating ice cream or fattening foods. I can eat whatever I want and as much as I want though. Absolutely no effects! My weight has stablized for two months without moving. I'm very disappointed with the lap band. As a tool it just doesn't work. Bummed I waisted so much money!:cursing:

Wow, hate that for you.

25 pounds before you even got a fill? Wow! Way better than me. I didn't lose my first pound until 10 weeks after surgery...when I got restriction.

Just getting the band isn't the lapband system....got to get restriction. Go back for another fill, and then another, and then yet another until you get the restriction.

Your doc not Kosher with that, fire 'em and go somewhere else.

Fill it up, a tad over if you have to. At some point you will get the restriction...it's just a matter of when.

Good luck!

Who says if you go to 4cc you won't be able to swallow your own saliva? Its possible that you might be someone who does need to go there. Or it may be that you will be fine at 3.5cc. Each person is unique. Don't give up just yet. Try another .5cc and then another. I imagine by then you will start to feel it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
