Hi

I got my lap band in October 2007 to date I have lost nothing, put it on rather than lost, initially lost a stone, but when swelling went down it went back on. have had two fills, none of which have worked, the port is facing the wrong way and it is absolute agony them trying to find the hole to put the needle in. I am certainly not happy and go back to hospital on Thursday, so wish me luck. I am so disappointed, thought this was the start of the rest of my life. :)

Wow! I am so sorry you are having such a time of it! Are they planning to reposition the port? Once they do that so that fills are not so painful, I would bet you can eventually get to a point of restriction that will make the band work.

I would imagine the disappointment, along with the pain involved made it a difficult thing to even want to work with the band---would have for me!

I am betting the "fix" will be a big help! Some people take 4-5 fills to get to a point of restriction.

Please let me know how it goes for you! I hate that you are disappointed, and not having good results through no fault of your own. It would certainly be discouraging.

One of the girls I chat with regularly here on LBT had the same issue, her port had flipped. They tried with her fills, and got nothing, so they did the port revision, and now she gets fills without issue, and is dropping weight seriously!!!

Her name here on the board is FairyFacade---I am sure she would be happy to share how it went.

Good Luck to you, and welcome to LBT---hope some of us around here can help provide you with some support as you face the new hurdle!

Kat

I'm sorry to hear you are having a tough time. I would hate to have each fill be such an ordeal. That is a shame and I can't help you on that one - hopefully there is something they can do to fix that problem.

As far as your lack of weight loss, please don't get discouraged about that! It isn't that your fills "Didn't work" it is that they weren't enough, your doctor wants to fill your band gradually because he/she doesn't want to risk overfilling you which is also a miserable place to be! Once you get the proper restriction you will lose weight, there are a lot of people on this board who are right there with you in 'bandster hell' and not losing much yet. It isn't user failure, trust me. Maybe, since your port is so difficult to access, they would consider giving you a bigger fill each time you go in. Or maybe they will decide to correct the port - I have heard that the surgery to do that is much simpler than the first surgery. I'm sorry you have to go through this. Don't despair, I'm sure they will figure out what to do for you.

Gosh, I hate that for you. Sometimes things don't work out the way we want.

Go back for an adjustment. That's the lapband system. So until you get restriction you really aren't supposed to lose even a pound.

Just hate you have to suffer to get a fill. Maybe you could ask for more than just a local.... it's an idea.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
