my most embarassing moment(s) in my journey

Recommended Posts

Okay, you guys are so funny I feel pretty safe telling my lapband introduction story. I found out my surgery would be covered by insurance and got an appointment with the Obesity Center at the Hospital I was going to. It was one of those initial appointments, the ones that take your stats and give you information and what to do next. Feeling like I had a new hope I decided to dress nicely and make a good impression and sort of feel good about myself. I put on some nice slacks and a button up blouse with some high heels (not really to high) and off I went.

While I was being interviewed for insurance info, my button popped right off my shirt. The nurse handed it to me. I was so emarassed that all I could think to say was "I want this documented as proof that I need this surgery". We had a little laugh and went on. When I left, a little deflatted from my button experience, my foot got caught in my shoe and I tripped going up the stairs. Good thing I was going up. Everyone asked if I was okay, and I was minus a few more self esteem points.

I went directly to a shopping center, and as I was walking in, my cell phone fell on the ground. Now I'm one of those gals who plays Tennis, at 270, and try's yoga, bike rideing etc. I can certainly bend to pick up something of the floor. I pick up tennis balls all the time. But because I was in high heels, I ofcourse fell over in front of everyone. To top it off I couldn't get up! I had to crawl over to the Water bottle display and crawl up. As everone was waiting for me to move, a little old lady said, "I think your shoes are to high."

I was either going to go back to my car and cry like Lucille Ball or have a good laugh. I called my sister and she laughed so hard, we both laughed. She said this was a sign that I was headed in the right direction for the surgery LOL. Needless to say, not one of my most confident days!

Glad you can look back and laugh! It is a good sign that you will have a positive outlook even on rough days!

You will make a good bandster, look forward to seeing you in bandland!

HA! You made my day with that story!

I'm post-band and can get up from the floor way easier now, but before I lost some weight I was working as an RN in the operating room. I had to get on my hands and knees to hook up some equipment onto the side of the OR bed, right next to the male surgeon. Since it was so hard for me to get up, I asked the surgeon if he wanted anything else while I was down there! Hoo boy:w00t: Everyone cracked up.

Oh gosh! You poor thing what a day that was! Those are the type of days you just want to go home, curl up in bed and not get up until it's quarter past icecream lol. At least you could have a good laugh about it!

That story really takes the cake! (groan)

I call those my "Jerry Lewis" days -- when I do one stupid/clutzy thing after the next. I'm hardly ever a clutz but when I am, it's like a chain reaction!

Do what I do: next time, in your best Jerry Lewis impersonation voice, say, "laaaaaady!"

I saw a t-shirt at Target once that had a stick figure of a person tripping and it said, "I do all my own stunts." I wish I had bought it.

A sense of humor definitely keeps you healthy and the ability to laugh at life's crazy situations is a gift.

Way too funny. I am sure at the time you were mortified but love the fact that you could laugh at yourself in the end. I am a very clumsy person. Always have been. Graceful and I have never met. I can stumble without anything to trip me up. I am at the point where when it happens and someone notices, I would like to say "Hey, this is me being normal". Good luck and hope everything "falls" into place for you on your Lap Band "trip"

OMG what a day!!!!! What a great attitude you have. It is a gift to look at situations like that and laugh. This can be one of your before stories.

Too funny as I am about the same weight and am relatively healthy. I don't play tennis, but I sure can pick up stuff off the floor. I'd be willing to bet that I wouldn't be so graceful in heels.

Good luck in your journey!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
