Return to Work/School

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I was banded on Monday 2/4/08, I am still in discomfort, but doing okay. How much time did you actually take - out of office- or out of school?

I was banded on 1/28, a Monday. I'm an attorney and I thought I might be able to go back to work by that Friday, but I was still pretty tired and felt that it might be pushing it. So I went back the following Monday, thereby taking a full week off.

Listen to your body. I found that even though I probably physically could go back to work, mentally I was really tired. Give yourself the gift of taking enough time off so that you know that you've done what you need to do to ensure proper recovery. Your body will appreciate it. I now feel great and am proceeding nicely.

Best wishes!

I was banded on Friday, 2/1, and went back to work for a half day on Monday. I was then back fulltime on Tuesday, although I did cut my days short, usually, they are close to 12 hours and this week has been closer to 9 or 10 hours.

Wow - you are dedicated!

I'm planning to be out for 2-3 weeks. I may go back earlier, but I wanted to make sure to have enough time to recuperate. Luckily, my boss is completely supportive.

My surgery was on 1/31 and I will be returning to work on Monday. I probably could have gone back the middle of this week, but due to the liquid diet I just don't feel like I had the stamina to try. It's been so nice to have plenty of time to recover!

I have not been banded yet. My paperwork is with my insurance company so I am waiting for the authorization. My coworker had band surgery and came back after a week and it was too soon for her. She didn't have enough time to take off more. I am fortunate that I have plenty of vacation and sick time. I plan to take 2 weeks minimum, even though I have a sit-down job. This is a big step for me and I want the time to adjust. I am all stocked up with Protein Shakes, chicken broth, frozen sugar-free popsicles, sugar free Jello and such. I found a check list here somewhere and what I didn't have already I have purchased most items. Still need slip on shoes, and liquid Tylenol. I asked at Target and they don't carry adult strength liquid Tylenol, so I will look around. Have the Gas-X, heating pad, ice pack, paper tape, gauze, blender, even toilet tongs LOL! I think I might need a UHaul to get to the hospital!

I too had purchased lots of that stuff and it turned out not to need most of it. I looked all over for liquid tylenol also and never did find it. Turns out I could swollow pill just fine afterwords. The hardest part has to be going to the bathroom(sorry for being detailed!) #1 we are all fat!!

#2 on a good day it is hard to wipe............so when you are full of insisions it is really hard. It does get easier. Day 1 & 2 the hardest and then much easier from there on. Good luck.

I was banded on January 3rd. Doing well but cant wait for my first fill. I need it.

I was banded on Jan. 2 and went back to work on the 16th. I am so glad I took that time off because when your eating only 300 calories a day initially you are exhausted!!!

Also, if you have not been banded yet check with your HR and see if you company offers short term medical disability or FMLA??? Becuase mine was covered under that I recieved 100% pay

GOOD LUCK!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
