Question from a Newbie

Recommended Posts

Is it required to count calories? I am just starting my journey (going to a seminar this weekend and having the diagnostic on the 18th) and I am a horrible calorie counter. The best way for me to lose in the past (although I've never kept it off) is to do Protein and green vegetables. You think I may be able to do that once I am banded?

Thanks

Every doc has their own diets, but you sound perfect for mine! His main rules are:

1. no liquid caloires

2. no sugar

3. 4oz meals 3x day (these consist of mostly lean protien and veggies)

The only counting required is to ensure that each meal does not exceed 4oz.

i dont focus around counting cal much i dont go over 1000 though i just eye ball the calories in the foods im gonna eat and keep a mental note. usuallly for Breakfast i eat an egg omelet. which i make in the microwave so i dont have to cook with any oils and such. lunch i usually eat refried Beans with cheese melted on it. and supper is usually a south beach meal or weight watchers meal thats only if im not in the mood for what i made the rest of my family for dinner. If i do eat dinner i make sure its a lean meat with veggies. not many carbs i eat if dont have to but every once in a while mash taters are good.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
