Chicago WISH center?

Recommended Posts

I am in the Chicagoland area and and starting to look for a weight loss practice. There are tons of advertisements for the WISH center. Anyone have any experience with them? I took the online seminar friday and they seem to have a good program going with lots of follow-up group meetings and they want everyone that is operated on to be totally educated about the process and the after surgery routine. They also seem to have good success with insurance companies. But I want to know about bedside manner and the competence of the doctors. They have stat for bariatric surgery but it says stats pending for lapband. Any info, or other surgeon suggestions would be great~Mandy

Mandy,

I am getting my band done through the Wish Center in Illinois. I have my first consultation on April 12th. I have researched them quite thoroughly, and am pleased with what I've found. I've contacted several people who've had their surgery there, and they love it. They all say how great they are before, during and after. The WC even has their own bariatric wing at the hospital. They really stress education and there's a mandatory 10-15 hours of computer education on the band. That said, they have more experience with RNY than banding. I am still confident in their surgeons (I am using Dr. Salvino, the founder and head surgeon there).

The price is also great, at $10,700, which includes everything except fills. Fills are a modest $105 + $70 if ultrasound is needed. These are self-pay prices.

If you'd like me to let you know how my first consulation went, please feel free to e-mail me after the 12th.

Oh... the first appointment is very long - 6 hrs! They do all the pre-op testing on that day, then you must go on an 8 week diet and exercise program. You must follow the program and log everything, or they will not do surgery on you.

Elizabeth

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
