2 problems on postop day 2

Recommended Posts

Problem 1: Sometimes it feels like somthing is coming back up in my throat?? Is this the band slipping? It comes and goes and usually only does it after I get up from sitting or lying??

Problem 2: My steristrips are causing blisters....can these come off or do I have to let them fall off?? Any tips?

Thanks, other than that I am doing really good...not so sore today...no nausea....

kaninag,

Sounds like you are doing great. Problem 1 might be that when you sit up from a lying position or stand up from a sitting position, you bend at the waist, which increases the pressure in your abdomen. It might be causing the backing up. You might try some Gas-x strips and see if it helps. I would call the surgeon and ask, just to be sure. Also, the steristrips shouldn't cause blistering, so definitely call and tell your surgeon about that. DO NOT pull them off unless he (or she) says it is ok. They usually have to stay on until they fall off on their own. Hope this helps.;)

I've had some "reflux" sensations, too, during these early days after surgery. even had feeling of gas around heart. I suspect we're still experiencing the CO2 they blew into our bellies. Reminds me--time to use that inhaler thingie....and walk walk walk to reduce the bloating.

I'd check with the doctor, I understand some doctors are adding a little fill at the time of surgery, did yours?

Are you stapled or glued or stitches, seems there's a variety of ways doctors are closing the incisions. I think that would be key to whether it's too early for the strips to come off. Mine fell off within a few days after surgery during/after showers.

My incisions are stitched under the skin and then I guess he glued the top. I dont know if he did a fill or not he didnt come out and talk to my family or anything!! I was kinda disappointed in that.

I'm just itchy all over! I think maybe my skin is just really dry but I am constantly scratching one place and then the itch moves somewhere else. Gah!

Hi, I'm new here. Banded 11/8/07. I had the same problem. I thought I was having "spasms". It did get better when I was able to advance my diet to full liquids like an Atkins shake. I did meet someone recently in the office that said she had the same thing and she said she had to go back to the office and get her Fluid out of her band taken out. I don't know if she said it had just accumulated there or they did fill it. I would call your doctor and talk to them with your symptoms and see what they suggest.

Hey DreamTheaterFan - My husband loves the band and is a guitar player (at home not in bars) We also love Knoxville - It's one of the friendliest cities we've ever been. Good luck on your journey!

I called the docs office first thing this morning and the nurse said that its gas...she said you're not able to burp effectively and your stomach is inflammed and you had all that gas pumped into that that is what is causing the sensation. She said to get GasX pills and take 1 tab with meals and 1 at bedtimes...she said once the stomach inflammation goes down that the sensations will go away!!!

I would get the Gas-x strips that melt on your tongue instead of the pills. Just as a precaution.

Uga girl, I have been using Vitamin E on my abdomen, it really helps with the itching. I think it also keeps the steri strips from irritating my skin. I was banded on 1/28 and was wondering (since we are discussing gas) if anyone has THUNDER coming from thier abdomen?? I am like a walking thunderstorm......my kids are getting a kick out of it and it is not painful just VERY LOUD!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
