Do I need a fill?

Recommended Posts

Okay, I'll tell you what I'm experiencing and hopefully someone can help me decide. I'm 7 months out from surgery and I've had I think 4 fills. I lost track of how much I have in my Inamed 10 cm band, but I think it's right around 3 cc or maybe 3.5. I'm beginning to wonder if I might have an esophageal stricture. Most times when I start to eat I get full/uncomfortable on like 2-3 bites. However, if I wait it out for a few minutes I can then finish my meal which is way less than I ate before surgery but too much for a band patient. I think I'm averaging a cup to a cup and a half of food, sometimes more sometimes less depending on the food. I'm supposed to go for a fill next week, but I'm not sure I actually need one. Last time I was at my doctor's office he said I should just about reaching my perfect fill point. What do you think? BTW, I've lost 41 lbs, but most of it was in the first 4-5 months, but not much more than 5-6 lbs in two months. I'm getting irritated with myself.

Thanks!

Casey

Sometimes, I go thru the "first bite syndrome," which is my name for what you are describing. You can sit for a bit and then you feel like you can eat again. I think that is pretty normal for many people at a certain fill level. It does sound like you need a fill, too, tho, in my opinion. Sure signs are eating more at once and slow down in losing weight...seems like you have both. Be sure to tell your doctor about the first bite syndrome. I'd go for the fill if I were you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
