surgery dates???

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how long it has taken folks to receive a date for surgery. I started my journey on 1/18 with my consultation. I made all my Pre-op appointments (nutrionist, gastro, card, pulm and diagnostic testing) with the exception of the physiatrist, which I will be scheduling at the end of February and if all goes well I hope I can be scheduled for surgery in April. Does that seem realistic?

I think everyone's experience is pretty different. I had all of my test done in December, then had to wait for January until my insurance changed. Once the coordinator submitted all my paperwork to insurance I was approved the same day:lol: which was last Friday, and now I'm scheduled for my surgery Feb. 20th.

I think it depends on how long ur insurance takes to approve, and then how busy your surgeon is.

Hope the time flies by for you:Dancing_jimlad:

I got approved yesterday and already made my pre-op appointment for 2/4 and the earliest they could get me in for surgery was 2/27. I'll start my south beach diet on the 17th to get my liver healthier for the surgery. (Some docs require a liquid diet, but mine doesn't).

I think it depends on what area you live in, how many lap band doctors are around. I'm in the D/FW area and there are tons of lap band doctors around here, so I don't think the wait is as long probably. That's just a guess though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
