This is taking some getting used to

Recommended Posts

I was banded the 23rd and I am still doing my liquid diet. It seems like my other senses are so much stronger now. It's so strange. Anyways a girl friend of my had dinner party tonight and I went to support her, it was a very strange experience as well. All the smells were awesome, I wasn't hungry and I just tried not to think about food, perhaps I am not ready for events like this. When I arrived home I ran in the house and drank down some propel Water and swallowed down some Soup, now I feel sick and full!! I think I am a crazy person!! I really miss eating and I couldn't even enjoy my broth!! Any suggestions? :wink2:

Since I was banded on December 13, 2007, I have had a real issue with smells also. It seems that I have a heightened sense of smell and I cannot stand the smell of perfumes any longer. I have never had this issue before the band but from the day of my surgery, every perfume smells spoiled to me. I wonder if there is any correlation?

Propel Water and broth are not going to satisfy you when you are having hunger! If you are not using a good quality Protein supplement made for bariatric patients (not athetes!), then you are going to have a hard time. Drinking them warm is very soothing to the pouch and very calming. Drinking them blended with ice and water and maybe a little FF CoolWhip will take the place of sweets and Desserts. They'll also keep your muscles and your hair healthy. Find some you love!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
